When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that particular provider. On their end, 3 records are created automatically right after the domain name is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain address where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they show the server that handles the e-mails for that particular domain name. The website and the email hosting are often perceived as one thing, while they are in reality two different services. Having separate records for them will enable you to have them with different providers if you wish. As an illustration, some new company can have fantastic uptime for your website, but you might not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the Internet domain to the first and MX records to have the emails with the second, you will get the best of both providers. These records are checked when you want to open a site or send an email - in any case, the company whose name servers are used for the domain address will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you will see the needed website or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting account with our company and you would like to switch either your website or your emails to an alternative provider, it'll take you literally simply 2 clicks to do so. Our Hepsia Control Panel provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard 2, it will not take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a given MX record is going to have. The propagation of each record that you change or create won't take more than a few hours and if necessary, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will remain active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for any one of your domain addresses or subdomains is extremely easy if you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan through us. The accounts are managed by using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on any of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record is as easy as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you won't experience any difficulties if you want to move your website or emails to some other provider while keeping the second service with our company. If required, you may also set up additional MX records and set a certain priority in accordance with the recommendations of the new provider.
