If you'd like to forward a domain name that you have to some other domain name or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it is pointed to. This way, if you use a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the Internet site which you have set up, but it'll also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the traffic from different subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because such a record created for the main domain makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record using our shared hosting plans is really simple. Our in-house built Hepsia CP includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account in only a few basic steps. You can find a video tutorial in the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature provides you with a variety of options - if you build a company site on our end, for example, the employees can use their e-mails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you choose to create a site using a different provider that offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, in case you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you can create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and redirect it to the main domain address, so all your clients are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server through our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it will require no more than a couple of clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed using our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP where you will find a section devoted to the DNS records of the domain addresses and subdomains hosted in the account. To set up a CNAME record, you will simply have to pick the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), type where the latter will be pointed to and save the modification. The new record will be active almost immediately in our system and will propagate worldwide within a couple of hours. Changing or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is equally easy and takes a click.
