Dot NAME Domain Names

Started in 2001, the .NAME top-level extension is the sole TLD planned for personal web pages only. These domain names can include personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other designations people are known by. At the beginning, just third-level registrations were permitted, so if you desired to acquire john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already taken 3rd-level names remained running.
